A Brazilian court has ordered the global removal of Adele’s hit song Million Years Ago from all radio and streaming platforms, following allegations of copyright infringement.

Judge Victor Torres issued the ruling after Brazilian composer Toninho Geraes accused Adele of plagiarizing his 1996 classic Mulheres, originally performed by renowned Brazilian artist Martinho da Vila. The song in question, featured on Geraes’ 1995 album, allegedly shares striking similarities with Adele’s track from her 2015 album 25.

Geraes is demanding $160,000 in compensation for lost royalties and moral damages. He is also seeking formal recognition as a co-writer of Million Years Ago.

The court has further warned the Brazilian branches of Sony and Universal, imposing an $8,000 fine for any act of non-compliance with the ruling.

This high-profile case underscores the growing challenges around intellectual property in the global music industry and has captivated audiences worldwide.
