Popular Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has addressed the recent allegation, claiming that she owes her late colleague and director, Murphy Afolabi, the sum of N250,000.
The statement was released through her management in response to a video that surfaced during the 8-day Fidau Prayer held in honor of Murphy Afolabi.
In the statement, Adunni Ade's management debunked the reports of her being indebted to the late actor and provided a detailed account of the situation. According to the statement, Murphy Afolabi reached out to Adunni Ade in July 2021, requesting her services for a self-funded movie production. Due to financial constraints, he couldn't afford her professional fee but asked for her moral support. Adunni Ade agreed to participate and was offered an honorarium of N150,000, which was paid on July 2, 2021.
However, tragedy struck when Adunni Ade's younger brother passed away shortly before the production was scheduled to begin on July 11, 2021. She contacted Murphy Afolabi to request his bank details for a refund as she had to travel to the United States for her brother's funeral. Murphy Afolabi asked her to hold on to the money while he considered rescheduling the shoot or arranging another opportunity for her.
On October 8, 2021, Murphy Afolabi approached Adunni Ade again, seeking her participation in a new project for four days with the same payment of N150,000. Adunni Ade respectfully declined and promptly refunded the initial payment of N150,000, providing proof of both transactions.
It should be noted that Murphy Afolabi tragically passed away on May 14, 2023, following an accident in his bathroom. Adunni Ade's management statement aims to clarify the situation and dispel any false allegations of indebtedness to the late actor.
