Lizzo, a pop musician, has announced the release of a new version of her song GRRRLS in response to criticism of the original's vocabulary.

The song was released on June 10th, but it received backlash for using a disparaging phrase to describe the most frequent type of cerebral palsy, spastic cerebral palsy.

"It's been brought to my attention that there is a damaging term in my new song 'GRRRLS,'" the American artist wrote on social media.

Let me be clear: I will never advocate the use of disparaging words.

As a large black woman in America, I've been the target of many nasty words. Therefore, I understand (sic) the power of words (whether intentionally or, in my case, unintentionally).

I’m proud to say there’s a new version of GRRRLS with a lyric change.

“This is the result of my listening and taking action."
