Renowned gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has taken legal action against her former manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, accusing him of diverting $345,000 in music royalties.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has joined the case, filing a motion to compel Onyedikachukwu's court appearance. The Lagos State Federal High Court has now issued an arrest warrant for the embattled manager, with his arraignment scheduled for January 24, 2025.
According to an affidavit submitted by the EFCC, Chinwo had lodged a petition claiming that Onyedikachukwu failed to remit her rightful share of royalties earned from her online music platforms and live performances. Despite the Commission's efforts to apprehend him, Onyedikachukwu has reportedly evaded arrest, leading to the court's intervention.
Justice Alexander Owoeye approved the EFCC's request for an arrest warrant during a court session on Thursday.
Mercy Chinwo, celebrated for her soul-stirring gospel hits, was initially signed to the EeZee Conceptz record label—owned by Onyedikachukwu—after winning the second season of Nigerian Idol in 2017. However, their professional relationship soured in September 2022, with Chinwo parting ways with the label amid financial disputes.
This legal battle marks a new chapter in the singer's career as she continues to focus on her music and ministry while seeking justice for her claims.
