Nigerian music sensation Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has set a new record as the first female African artist to achieve 1 billion streams on Spotify with a single track.

Her chart-topping collaboration ‘Wait For U’ with Future and Drake has officially surpassed 1 billion streams, solidifying her global impact in the music industry.

Originally released in 2022, the hit song samples ‘Higher’, a standout track from Tems' debut EP ‘For Broken Ears’ (2020). Upon its release, ‘Wait For U’ made history by debuting at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, making Tems the first African artist to achieve this feat.

The Grammy-winning song also received two nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, securing a win for Best Melodic Rap Performance and earning a nod for Best Rap Song.

This milestone further cements Tems' position as a trailblazer, redefining Afrobeats and African music on the global stage.
