Netanyahu made a bold statement on Sunday, asserting that the surrender of dozens of Hamas fighters marks the "beginning of the end" for the notorious terrorist group.
In a televised address in Hebrew, Netanyahu revealed that Hamas militants have been laying down their arms and voluntarily surrendering to Israeli forces.
"While the war is still ongoing and will take more time, the recent surrender of Hamas terrorists is a significant development," declared the prime minister. He directly addressed members of Hamas, stating, "It is over. Don't sacrifice yourselves for Sinwar. Surrender – now."
Online videos have surfaced, depicting scenes of detainees, stripped to their underwear with hands raised in surrender. Some detainees were seen holding assault rifles above their heads, emphasizing the impactful nature of their decision to give up the fight. One individual even walked forward to place a firearm on the ground, symbolizing their renunciation of violence.
Though Israel has not officially commented on the latest video, government spokesman Eylon Levy confirmed that there is a noticeable increase in the number of Hamas fighters surrendering. The development comes amid intensified clashes in Gaza, including the battered northern region, as Israel continues its offensive. The U.S. recently thwarted an international push for a cease-fire and expedited additional munitions to support its ally in the conflict. The situation remains fluid as both sides navigate the complexities of the ongoing hostilities.
