In a quest to promote responsible governance and nation-building, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai announced on Saturday that he is voluntarily slashing his salary by 40 per cent.
Quoted in a statement published on Liberia’s government website, President Boakai emphasized that this decision is part of his commitment to fiscal integrity and national financial security.
“In fulfilment of his commitment to fiscal integrity and national financial security, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has announced a voluntary 40 per cent reduction in his salary,” the statement read.
President Boakai explained that this action underscores his determination to lead by example in enhancing government accountability and showing solidarity with the people of Liberia. This decision follows his recent public declaration of assets, further emphasizing his commitment to transparency.
The Liberian leader reiterated that his salary reduction aligns with his dedication to upholding the constitution and laws of Liberia. He aims to foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and good governance through this significant gesture.
