A Georgia man has received a hefty prison sentence for a horrific crime: poisoning his own 18-day-old daughter with antifreeze.
Curtis Jack's actions came to light in October 2020 when his infant daughter, Madison, became critically ill. Tests revealed the presence of ethylene glycol, a toxic component of antifreeze, in her system.
Investigators discovered a chilling motive. Jack, who reportedly got his co-worker pregnant accidentally, allegedly tampered with bottles of breast milk he collected from the hospital where Madison's mother was recovering. His aim – to avoid child support.
The tainted milk was delivered to the child's grandmother, who was caring for another one of the mother's children. Thankfully, Madison survived the ordeal, but the consequences for Jack were severe.
A jury found him guilty on all charges, including attempted murder. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison, with 40 years to be served behind bars.
Antifreeze is incredibly poisonous, and even small amounts can cause drowsiness, vomiting, kidney failure, and even death. While little Madison is reportedly doing well, the emotional scars of this crime will undoubtedly stay with her and her family.
The mother, understandably shaken, opted not to comment after the sentencing. This case serves as a stark reminder of the lengths some individuals will go to in order to avoid responsibility.
