A Nigerian national, John Nwankwo Noko, was deported after being caught on CCTV camera assaulting a Kenyan woman.

The incident, which raised concerns about Gender-Based Violence (GBV), has sparked outrage and calls for action against such acts.

The deportation was confirmed in a statement signed by State Department of Gender Principal Secretary Anne Wang’ombe, as reported by The Standard. Nwankwo Noko was deported on Saturday, May 4, following accusations of physically assaulting his partner, who is confined to a wheelchair.

"This act of violence not only violates the rights of an individual but also sheds light on the broader issue of gender-based violence that plagues our society," stated Wang’ombe.

The case came to light after Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba raised the alarm on Wednesday, May 1, upon viewing a viral video on social media. Acting swiftly, Senator Orwoba visited the woman at her home, where she confirmed feeling endangered due to threats from her Nigerian partner.

According to the woman, her partner had been threatening her and her domestic workers with dire consequences if they spoke out against him. Senator Orwoba promptly reported the matter to Karen Police Station, leading to the involvement of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure and Immigration PS Julius Bitok.

Following due process, Nwankwo Noko was arrested and processed for deportation, as confirmed by the Gender PS.

Senator Orwoba, a staunch advocate against violence towards women, has reiterated the urgent need to address the escalating cases of GBV. She emphasizes that such acts not only cause physical and emotional harm but also erode the moral fabric of society.
