Rapper Kiernon "AKA" Forbes was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road on Friday night, according to police sources in Durban.

Another person who was shot dead is believed to be a close friend of AKA, while another unidentified person who was thought to be his bodyguard was also wounded.

Although the provincial police had not yet made an official statement regarding the killings, IOL has independently verified this information from reliable police sources; these sources cannot be named because they are not allowed to speak to the media.

AKA was reportedly killed in a drive-by shooting while he was standing outside the Wish Restaurant.

It's thought that just before 10 p.m., two unidentified cars started shooting.

When an IOL team arrived at the scene on Friday night, police had already cordoned off the area.

AKA had been outside Wish when he was shot to death, according to shocked diners who spoke to IOL from a nearby restaurant.

Garrith Jamieson, a spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, said Florida Road has been closed off after the shooting incident on Florida Road, where two people have been confirmed deceased.

Jamieson said among the deceased was a “famous rapper."

The identity of the second person shot dead is unknown at this stage, but he is understood to be a close friend of AKA.

According to social media posts, AKA was due to perform at a Durban nightclub, YUGO, where he was expected to perform as part of his birthday celebrations.
