Fasia Ajoke, a 22-year-old woman, has been sentenced to seven months and three weeks in prison by the Special Offences Court at Bolade-Oshodi.

Her conviction stems from an incident where she assaulted a female officer of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) while the officer was on duty.

This information was disclosed by the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via his social media handle on Thursday.

Wahab highlighted that Ajoke was found guilty not only of assaulting the officer but also of resisting arrest and refusing to use the designated pedestrian bridge.

His post stated, "The Special Offences Court at Bolade-Oshodi today convicted a lady, 22-year-old Fasia Ajoke to seven months and three weeks in jail for assaulting a female operative of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) #LAGESCOfficial on lawful duty, resisting lawful arrest and refusing to make use of the Ile-Epo pedestrian bridge, thereby endangering her life in the process."

Ajoke was brought before Chief Magistrate S.A Adefioye of the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile Court), Bolade-Oshodi, on charges related to conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, obstruction, and crossing the highway in a manner that violates peace and safety regulations.

The commissioner urged residents to refrain from assaulting environmental officers and emphasized the importance of using pedestrian bridges for safety.

"We enjoin every well-meaning Lagosian to desist from assaulting our environmental officers and also make use of the pedestrian bridges as the state will not hesitate to prosecute anyone found breaking the law," Wahab stressed.

Recent reports have highlighted similar incidents of assaults on environmental officials in Lagos State, indicating a need for heightened awareness and adherence to safety regulations. In February, the government reiterated its stance on pedestrian safety, emphasizing that crossing major highways is an offense punishable by law.
