The State Controller and Chief Fire Officer of Abia State Fire Service, Arua Nnanna, has expressed deep concern about the frequent fire outbreaks in the state, which have led to significant property damage.
He emphasized this while addressing recent incidents, including fires at Amuzukwu Primary School in Umuahia, the Nigeria Institute of International Languages in Aba, and Chisco Motor Park, also in Aba.
Nnanna mentioned that his office would enforce the installation of fire extinguishers in buildings, following the directive from the State government. He underscored Governor Alex Otti's commitment to ensuring the safety of Abia citizens and residents by addressing any threats to their safety promptly.
He attributed the fire incidents in the state to various factors such as high temperatures, storage of adulterated petroleum products, and improper electrical installations.
Nnanna emphasized the importance of fire prevention measures and stated that his office's fire prevention unit would start enforcing the installation of fire extinguishers and other preventive measures outlined by the State government.
Furthermore, Nnanna highlighted Governor Alex Otti's administration's efforts in providing necessary equipment to prevent and control fires across the state.
He mentioned that there have been over 20 fire incidents in Umuahia and Aba between December 2023 and March 2024, with various areas, including markets and schools, being affected.
In conclusion, Nnanna emphasized the importance of fire safety measures and the government's commitment to protecting lives and property from fire disasters.
