In a shocking attack on the Runka community of Safana Local Government Area in Katsina State, bandits dressed in hijabs, also known as abayas, kidnapped 26 people, mostly women and children.

The attack, which occurred on Saturday night around 10:00 PM, has left the community reeling in fear.

Runka is located just a few kilometers from the notorious Rugu Forest, a known hideout for criminals. A source from the community told Channels Television on Monday that the hoodlums invaded the area, shooting sporadically.

"The bandits killed nobody in the community except one person who was shot and injured after he attempted to run. As I am speaking to you, he has been hospitalized," the source reported. He also claimed that informants within the community facilitated the attack.

"At least 25 people were abducted, including twelve of my relatives," the source said. The attack, which lasted for hours, saw the bandits moving from house to house, breaking into homes, and taking residents to the forest.

"There was no security personnel presence during the attack. An armored personnel carrier with some police officers was deployed only after the incident," he added.

During the attack, one of the bandits was overheard on the phone with an informant, saying, "Today, we’ve come to your hometown."
