A yet-to-be-identified bike thief ran out of luck yesterday as he was caught on Tuesday 18 after trying to strangle an okada rider and steal his bike in Ugbokodo community, Warri South, Delta State.
According to an eyewitness, the community residents have been discovering the dead bodies of okada riders in the bush of the community and their bikes are nowhere to be found.
After being beaten to stupor, the suspect confessed that he tells victims to take him to a destination where there are little or no people after boarding their bikes, after which, he brings out a high denomination in a bid to make them stick around and look for change, and then when they switch off their bike, he attacks them with a knife or cutlass, killing them on the spot and making away with their bike.
However, the suspect was unfortunate when he tried to do the same to an okada rider who was said to have charms. While attacking the okada man, the knife bounced back and the okada rider attacked him and raised alarm which attracted more riders.
The suspect was almost burnt alive but was rescued by the leader of the community who later handed him over to the police for prosecution.
