The All Progressives Congress (APC) is in disarray after its national leader, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, announced Senate President Ahmed Lawan as a consensus presidential candidate.
Adamu made the statement at a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Monday.
Other hopefuls, such as Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and David Umahi, will be allowed to contest the primary at the convention, which will take place tomorrow in Eagle Square, Abuja.
Other aspirants must be given a level playing field, according to NWC members.
Adamu's endorsement of Lawan as a consensus candidate goes against the wishes of the 11 APC northern governors, who believe that power should be transferred to the south after President Muhammadu Buhari's term ends.
After consulting with President Buhari, Adamu arrived at the decision to nominate Lawan. He addressed the National Working Committee.
