In a recent development, the Ondo State High Court in Akure has issued a directive mandating the State House of Assembly to form a panel of medical professionals to assess the health status of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

This decision comes in response to concerns raised by a coalition of civil society groups regarding the governor's prolonged stay in Ibadan, Oyo State, following his return from a medical vacation in Germany.

As reported by Pmnews.ng, the civil society groups, represented by their conveners Olufemi Lawson, Ologun Ayodeji, Isijola Kike, and Arogbo Olaniyi, took the matter to court, seeking an order to compel the state assembly to conduct a thorough investigation into Governor Akeredolu's health.

The coalition, represented by counsel Dotun Ajulo, named the State Assembly, its speaker Olamide Oladiji, and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as respondents in the case. In a ruling on Wednesday, Justice A. I. Kolawole invoked Section 189(4) of the 1999 Constitution, directing the lawmakers to establish a medical panel to provide a clear report on the governor's health.

The court's decision reflects a legal approach to address concerns raised by the coalition regarding Governor Akeredolu's health and his extended stay in Ibadan. The matter has been adjourned to January 11, 2024, signaling a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of the governor's well-being.
