Yesterday, an Edo state high court sentenced a 31 year old man named Sunday Akpeji to 9 Years imprisonment For Raping a 7-years old girl in Akoko-Edo, the northern part of Edo State.

The 31-years-old was sentenced to 9 years in prison with hard labour and no option of fine, for defiling a 7-years-old girl in Igarra, Akoko-Edo, Edo state.

It should be noted that Akpeji raped the girl in Igarra, Akoko-Edo, Edo state on 19th August, 2019 was convicted and sentenced on Tuesday July 21, 2020.

The Executive Director of Brave Heart Initiative (BHI) an NGO against rape and sexual violence who represented the 7-years-old girl in court confirmed the latest development.

It will be noted that of recent there have been several deliberation on the penalty that ought to be given to a rapist, the governor state governor Mallam El-Rufia opined that rapists needed to be castrated while some groups advocate for death sentence or life imprisonment.
