Philip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, has donated his campaign secretariat office to the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign organization supporting Senator Monday Okpebholo and Hon Dennis Idahosa.
This office, located along Airport Road in Benin City, previously served as the headquarters for Shaibu's own campaign when he was running for governor before his disputed impeachment.
In addition to the campaign office, Shaibu also donated several Sienna vehicles, utility (music) trucks, and integrated his campaign structure into the APC framework. This gesture signals a significant shift in his political alignment.
The decision was made public when Shaibu received members of the APC Campaign Council, led by its Director General, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, at his campaign office. During a visit to the office on Monday evening, it was observed that the secretariat had been rebranded, with all previous branding featuring Shaibu's image and the PDP logo replaced by APC and Okpebholo/Idahosa campaign materials.
This move suggests that Shaibu, who is currently contesting his impeachment and the selection of Asue Ighodalo as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, may be returning to the APC. Shaibu and other discontented former PDP gubernatorial aspirants, along with members of the Chief Dan Orbih-led Legacy PDP Group, had previously vowed not to support Ighodalo in the upcoming September 21, 2024, gubernatorial election.
