Madam Joan Onyemachi Mrapkpor, the former Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State and widely known as “Ada Anioma,” was kidnapped on Tuesday during a church service in Asaba, Delta State.
Mrapkpor, who recently resigned from her position as a member of the House of Representatives to support her younger brother’s bid for a local government council chairmanship, was abducted from her church located off Delta Broadcasting Service Street.
An eyewitness reported, "There was a commotion inside her church close to the police headquarters on DBS Road. We all ran due to the shooting. It just happened a few minutes ago. One aide was shot dead and a security personnel is presently unconscious."
SP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident. He stated that one of the command’s officers was killed by the abductors. Edafe assured the public that detectives are actively pursuing the kidnappers and promised to provide more details as the investigation progresses.
The incident, which occurred near the police headquarters, has heightened concerns about security in the area. Authorities are intensifying efforts to locate and rescue Mrapkpor while ensuring justice for those affected by this tragic event.
