Police operatives from the Angwan Lambu Division in Keffi, Nasarawa State, have successfully arrested a fake soldier and an armed robbery suspect following a well-coordinated intelligence-led surveillance operation.

According to a statement by SP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect, identified as Godswill Achili, was caught wearing military camouflage and later confessed to impersonating a soldier and engaging in armed robbery.

Criminal Syndicate Targeting Youths and Students

Police investigations revealed that Achili is part of a notorious criminal syndicate that operates across Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The group, dressed in full military gear, uses a black, unregistered Toyota Avalon to deceive and rob unsuspecting victims, primarily targeting youths and students traveling between Keffi, New Karu, and the FCT.

The syndicate's modus operandi involves luring victims into their vehicle under false pretenses before robbing them of cash, mobile phones, and other valuables.

“The syndicate operates in full military uniforms, using a black, unregistered Toyota Avalon, deceiving unsuspecting travelers, especially youths and students commuting between Keffi, New Karu, and the FCT. Victims are tricked into the vehicle before being robbed of their money and personal belongings,” the police statement reads.

Manhunt for Other Gang Members Underway

Further investigations indicate that at least two other gang members are still on the run, and security forces are intensifying efforts to track them down and bring them to justice.

The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities to help curb criminal activities in the state.

With rising cases of criminals disguising as security personnel, residents are advised to be cautious and report any suspicious individuals or vehicles to the police.
