Former Communication Minister Adebayo Shittu is advising the President Bola Tinubu-led government to consider negotiating with bandits and offering them a promising future.

Shittu believes that many of these bandits are young and capable individuals who could be valuable assets if given the opportunity. He suggests that using non-violent methods to address banditry could yield positive results.

Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today show, Shittu emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of banditry, such as the high number of out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria.

He views this issue as a breeding ground for future bandits and suggests that providing education and opportunities could help prevent the growth of criminal activities.

Shittu's advice comes in the wake of similar calls from controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, who has advocated for negotiation with bandits.

Gumi has warned against repeating the approach of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who refused to engage in dialogue with bandits.

In summary, Shittu urges the government to explore non-violent solutions and consider offering bandits a chance at a better future through negotiation and opportunity.
