In a decisive move aimed at upholding financial accountability, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has suspended Aminu Kanta, the Commissioner for Commerce, over allegations of mismanagement of funds designated for the Ramadan feeding program.

The suspension was formally announced by Ismaila Dutse, the Public Relations Officer in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, through a statement issued on Friday.

"The governor directed for the suspension in a letter, conveyed by the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government," the statement reads.

Kanta's suspension is linked to his alleged involvement in the mismanagement of funds allocated for the iftar feeding program in Babura Local Government Area. Effective immediately, the suspension will remain in place pending a thorough investigation into the matter.

The State Executive Council had previously approved a substantial sum of N2.8 billion for the Ramadan iftar program across all 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Jigawa State. As part of the initiative, 600 centers were established, each with a minimum of two feeding points in every political ward. Additionally, designated centers were set up at each higher institution of learning within the state.

Dutse emphasized that the suspension underscores the government's unwavering commitment to promoting financial transparency and prudent management of public funds. By taking swift and decisive action, Governor Namadi reaffirms his administration's dedication to upholding integrity and accountability in governance.
