The rumor that former president Olusegun Obasanjo would support Peter Obi's bid for the presidency of the Labour Party, LP, has been downplayed.
Obasanjo declared that since he is not a part of any political party, he will not be a part of any campaign train.
The Africa Leadership Group hosted a virtual event where he gave a speech.
In a letter to Nigerian youths about their leadership preferences, the former president had given Obi his support.
By Obi's political rivals, Obasanjo received harsh criticism.
However, Obasanjo said, “I am not on the campaign train." I have used the benefit of my experience to put things plainly.
“I do not belong to any political party." I will not join any campaign train. I have said what is best for the country.
The former president also blamed Nigeria’s problems on bad leadership.
“Nigeria is where we are because of leadership."
“We must decisively look for men and women who have the character, attributes, skill, and attitude that we need for leadership and who will deliver in this country,” he added.
