Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the appointment of new emirs for the Gaya, Karaye, and Rano Emirates.
The announcement was made by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Director General of Media and Publicity to the governor.
The newly appointed emirs are:
- Alhaji Muhammad Maharaz Karaye for Karaye Emirate
- Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar for Rano Emirate
- Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, reinstated as the emir of Gaya Emirate
Governor Yusuf congratulated the new emirs and urged them to promote culture, peace, and unity within their emirates. The appointments are effective immediately.
This development follows the recent passage of the Kano State Emirate Council Establishment Bill by the Kano Assembly, which Governor Yusuf subsequently signed into law. The bill's enactment led to the creation of three second-class emirates.
On Tuesday, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the establishment of these emirates underscores the significance of traditional institutions and reflects the government's dedication to preserving cultural heritage.
