The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a scathing critique of Senator Dino Melaye, branding him a liability to the party.
Led by Ibrahim Dansofo, PDP elders in the state urged the local executive committee in Ijumu to begin immediate suspension proceedings against Melaye, citing the need to restore the party’s integrity and focus on effective leadership.
This call for action follows recent remarks made by Melaye, who accused the acting national chairman of the PDP, Iliya Damagum, alongside Samuel Anyanwu and Umar Bature, of irreparably damaging the party. Melaye’s criticism has been met with strong condemnation from the Kogi PDP elders, who argue that his political influence has diminished to the point where he can no longer secure even a local councillor position.
Dansofo and his group went further to describe Melaye as a burden to the party, suggesting that his continued presence serves only his personal interests rather than contributing positively to the PDP. They pointed to Melaye's past actions, including his controversial governorship ticket, as evidence of his hypocrisy, claiming he was granted the ticket despite his well-known inability to win a primary election.
The Kogi PDP elders did not mince words, placing the blame for the party’s current struggles squarely on Melaye. They argued that his nomination was a significant misstep that has contributed to the party's ongoing challenges. In a strong rebuke, they called on prominent PDP figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, to reconsider their support for Melaye, urging them to distance themselves from someone they described as a "big-time liability" to the party.
Additionally, the PDP elders accused Melaye of mismanaging funds allocated for the governorship election, demanding that he account for the billions he allegedly collected. They urged the public to dismiss Melaye’s recent comments as the desperate words of a man whose political relevance has long since faded.
