The political landscape in Edo South witnessed a significant upheaval as discord reverberated through the Labour Party following the rejection of Barrister Olumide Akpata's candidacy by key figures, including Honorable Lucky Obiyan, a prominent member of the 'Obidient Movement'.

In a press conference held at Olive Place on Akenzua Road, Honorable Obiyan made a resolute declaration, announcing his withdrawal of support for Barrister Akpata in the upcoming 2024 Edo Governorship Elections. Citing concerns over the integrity of the Labour Party's recent primaries, Obiyan expressed disillusionment with the party's leadership and its deviation from the values upheld by the Obidient Movement.

Emphasizing the non-partisan stance of the Obidient Movement, Obiyan underscored the need to clarify their disassociation from any political affiliation, particularly in light of the perceived discrepancies within the Labour Party. He stated, "The Labour Party in Edo State has so far demonstrated every contradictory arrangement to what Obidients believe in," reaffirming the movement's commitment to principled governance.

Echoing Obiyan's sentiments, another faction of the Edo Obidient Movement convened to voice their dissatisfaction with the Labour Party's handling of the primaries. Addressing reporters at the NUJ Secretariat in Benin City, spokesperson Mr. Ikhuenbor Figo expressed dismay at the party's failure to present itself as a viable alternative to established political entities like the PDP and APC.

The Edo Obidient Movement issued a vote of no confidence in both the Labour Party's governorship primaries process and the leadership, casting doubt on the credibility of Barrister Akpata's candidacy. This collective condemnation underscores the widening divide within the party and raises questions about its ability to unify support behind a single candidate for the upcoming elections.

As tensions simmer and factions within the Labour Party navigate their allegiances, the broader implications of this internal discord remain to be seen. The rejection of Barrister Akpata's candidacy by influential members of the Obidient Movement signals a significant setback for the party, highlighting the challenges it faces in garnering cohesive support ahead of the gubernatorial polls.
