At Kure Ultra Modern Market in Minna, Niger State, a man named Abubakar Mohammed, a 40-year-old resident of Tudun-Fulani, Bosso, narrowly escaped a potential lynching by an enraged mob.

The reason behind the commotion was his alleged attempt to steal a Honda Civic car with the registration number KAG 371 AA.

The incident unfolded on a Thursday when Abubakar tried to make a quick getaway with the stolen vehicle from the market's parking area. Eyewitnesses revealed that his actions quickly attracted the attention of a furious crowd. Fortunately, prompt intervention by police officers saved him from the angry mob, leading to his subsequent arrest.

During interrogation, Abubakar admitted to using a fabricated key to move the vehicle from the car park. Shockingly, this wasn't his first offense; he confessed to having stolen a red Honda Civic car from the same market in March 2023. In that instance, he sold the vehicle to a certain Bashir Mohammed in Kaduna for N200,000, using the proceeds to invest in a shoe business in Kasuwa-Wanbai, Kano State.

Abubakar, in his confession, revealed that he needed more money for farming and to construct a personal house in Wushishi, as he was preparing for marriage. He emphasized that he presently has no wife, citing these reasons as the motivation behind his latest attempt to steal a car from the market.

The Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that the police received a distress call about the incident and swiftly came to Abubakar's rescue. The case is now under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna. Additionally, efforts are underway to track down Bashir Mohammed, the alleged receiver of stolen vehicles, in Kaduna State. The police are determined to bring all involved parties to justice in this daring case of car theft.
