In a crucial advisory, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a stern warning to Nigerians about the dangers of purchasing and using pre-registered SIM cards.
This practice is illegal and can lead to severe consequences, including imprisonment.
The NCC emphasized that individuals using pre-registered SIM cards might unknowingly become involved in serious crimes such as identity theft, financial fraud, kidnapping, and armed robbery. These SIM cards compromise the accuracy of consumer information, making it difficult for authorities to track criminals effectively.
In a statement, the NCC highlighted, “Using pre-registered SIM cards undermines the reliability of data collected on consumers, making it challenging for authorities to identify and apprehend the actual perpetrators of crimes.”
It will be recalled that people usually sell pre-registered sim in the market to avoid the registration process.
