The Oyo State House of Assembly has requested that Governor Seyi Makinde replicate the building of bus terminals in other state zones.

The House made the appeal on Tuesday while debating a motion that was sponsored by both the Chief Whip and the House leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin (Atiba).

Need for the Executive Arm of Government to Replicate Bus Terminal Construction in Other Administrative Zones of the State was the motion's subtitle.

The House decided that bus termini should be made available to all geographic areas in Oyo State as a result of the motion read by the Chief Whip, which emphasized the significance of bus termini in the management and growth of the transportation sector in any state.

Furthermore, we are aware that Governor Seyi Makinde started building four ultra-modern bus terminals as soon as he took office in his first term. The Ojoo and Challenge districts of Ibadan saw the official opening, construction, and commissioning of two of the terminals. The other two terminals presently under construction are terminals 1 and 2 at Iwo Road, Ibadan. “

The second resolution in the motion was another appeal to the Oyo State Governor to increase the number of buses released to other zones like Oyo, Ogbomoso, and Okeogun.

The majority leader maintained that It will completely eradicate the issue of kidnapping on our highways, as travelers and motorists can easily be traced through manifests in case of any occurrence.

While commending and appreciating the Executives for the extension of inter-city bus services to Ogbomoso, Oyo, Okeogun, and Eruwa, the motion further appealed to the Executives to extend the intra-city bus system to Ogbomoso and Oyo, being the second and third largest cities in the state, and equally to aid and subsidize the transportation problems of large numbers of students in both cities as a result of the presence of universities, which further populated both cities.

According to a statement made available to MOUTHPIECE NGR on Tuesday, the lawmakers were quoted as saying that the motion

enhance intra- and inter-city transportation across all zones as well as boost the economic activities of the areas.

The motion acknowledged the giant strides of Governor Seyi Makinde in the transportation sector, especially in the construction of four ultra-Modern bus terminals in the State, two of which have been fully completed while two are still under construction.

”Notes that His Excellency needs to be applauded for his magnanimity in approving 16 new luxury buses for intercity purposes in Saki, Iseyin, Oyo, Ogbomoso, and Ibarapa areas of the State to cushion the aftermath effects of fuel subsidy removal on the citizens and residents of Oyo State.

”Aware that a total of 46 buses have so far been captured under the Sustainable Action For Economic Recovery (SAFER) program of the present administration to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal within the State as 30 buses were released for the same purpose within the State capital in recent time, Kudos to the Governor.”

Until the construction of the terminuses, as noted in the motion, cases of kidnapping were rampant among unauthorized taxi and bus drivers who kidnapped and conveyed their unsuspecting passengers along the roads any time of the day.

The House maintained that with the terminuses in place, the safety of every passenger and their luggage(s) is guaranteed since all the particulars and information of passengers will be taken and recorded on manifests before the vehicles leave for their different destinations.

We are further aware that after the completion of the two terminuses, it was easier for the Government to regulate the activities of the commuters, increase internally generated revenue to the state, and also serve as a business hub for traders and a very good security measure against kidnapping and loss of passengers personal belongings.

”Concerned commercial drivers are now being closely monitored, thereby ensuring their good conduct and reducing sales and intake of alcohol since it is prohibited for anyone to sell alcoholic drinks within and outside the terminus. No more cases of lost luggage, as  drivers who find lost bags inside their vehicles have no choice but to return them because bags can now be traced to them.”

Earlier in the day, The ISESE traditionalist was on the floor of the Assembly to show appreciation and gratitude to the Honorable members, especially the mover of the motion and the leadership of the Assembly, which made their dream of having a day declared a public holiday as ISESE DAY a reality after a decade of attempts.
