The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edda clan, Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on Thursday, tasked Governor David Umahi to cease from making an inciting statement against the people of the area.
A chieftain of the Party, Chief Julius Oji, who spoke to newsmen on behalf of Edda clan, said Umahi’s recent utterances were capable of provoking communal war among the people.
Recall that Umahi had earlier in a visit to the Edda community berated the people of the area for their refusal to vote for the APC during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The governor also mandated the community leaders of Edda clan, as well as the youths and women to do whatever that is possible to ensure that all candidates of the APC win in the forthcoming March 18, 2023, governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Oji described governor Umahi’s mandate as an affront to the right and desire of the people of the area in choosing who governs them.
He said that the governor wasted the 8 years he governed Ebonyi state, alleging that the people of Edda community were subjected to perpetual pain since he (Umahi) assumed office as the governor of Ebonyi in 2015.
Oji alleged that there had been lots of killings, intimidation, violence, bloodshed and all manner of crisis in Ebonyi State, since 2015 that the present administration took over power.
According to him: “we can’t keep quiet any longer. Allow Edda people to choose who they have confidence in to govern and represent them.”
“Edda people are known warriors and cannot be cajoled or subjected to any form of intimidation or oppression to influence their choice or change their mandate in the coming election, on Saturday” he stated.
