The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of suspected armed robbers and cultists in Oghara, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, alongside the recovery of an AK-47 magazine and other weapons.
The Command's Spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, detailed the operation in a statement on Monday in Asaba. He noted that following a series of cult-related activities, kidnappings, and armed robberies in Sapele, Oghara, and surrounding areas, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed a specialized team to collaborate with the Oghara and Sapele Divisions to address these issues.
"On June 18, 2024, in a covert intelligence-led operation, ASP Julius Robinson led a raid on three different syndicates of cultists and suspected armed robbers at various locations in Oghara Town, Ethiope East LGA of Delta State," Edafe reported. "This operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects."
The arrested individuals include:
- **Ochuko Joel Ofoye** (35), from Jeddo Community in Okpe LGA, Delta State, identified as a member of Juris Confraternity.
- **Michael Anwul** (29), from Alisimie Community in Agbor, Ika South LGA, Delta State, also a member of Juris Confraternity.
- **Great Ojareri** (35), from Oghareki Community in Ethiope West LGA, Oghara, Delta State, identified as a member of Eiye Confraternity and the custodian of arms.
- **Innocent Esefeta** (31), from Efisere Community in Ughelli North LGA, Delta State.
- **Ogaga Ebuke** (27), another member of Juris Confraternity. During the operation, the police recovered significant items, including: - Two AK-47 magazines, 29 rounds of live ammunition
- A locally made pistol with one live cartridge, which was concealed in a shoe
The suspects will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigation
