In a remarkable display of compassion and empowerment, the first lady, Mrs.
Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the President, has extended a helping hand to 120 women and 200 physically challenged individuals across the six states of the Northeast region. Through her Renewed Hope Initiative and Women in Agriculture program, Mrs. Tinubu disbursed N500,000 to each woman and N100,000 to each physically challenged person, aiming to uplift their lives and foster self-sufficiency.
The launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Women in Agriculture, and Support to the Disabled for the Northeast took place at the Government House in Maiduguri on Tuesday. Mrs. Tinubu, who chairs the initiative, emphasized its inclusive nature by extending support not only to the Northeast but also to beneficiaries from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Represented by the Vice President's wife, Nana Kashim Shettima, Mrs. Tinubu outlined the program's objectives, including financial assistance to physically challenged individuals and support for women in agriculture. She highlighted the importance of investing the funds in poultry, fishery, and irrigation farming, aiming to expand the agricultural base and ensure sustainable livelihoods for the beneficiaries.
Under the initiative, 20 women from each state in the Northeast will receive N500,000 for the Women in Agriculture program, while 200 physically challenged persons in Borno will benefit from N100,000 each through the Social Investment Programme. Mrs. Tinubu encouraged the recipients to seize the opportunity to enhance their agricultural endeavors and contribute to food security in their communities.
Mrs. Tinubu also revealed ongoing initiatives such as "Every Home A Garden," which encourages women to cultivate gardens for food production, with a reward of N20 million for the winner of a garden competition. Additionally, plans are underway to launch the Young Farmers Club in primary and secondary schools, with incentives such as the construction of classrooms equipped with laboratories and libraries for schools with outstanding farms.
The launch of these initiatives reflects Mrs. Tinubu's commitment to empowering women, supporting persons with disabilities, and fostering agricultural development across Nigeria. As beneficiaries embark on their entrepreneurial journeys, the impact of Mrs. Tinubu's initiatives is poised to create lasting positive change in communities nationwide.
