The Rivers State House of Assembly has commended the Supreme Court of Nigeria for its judgment affirming Martin Amaewhule as Speaker and recognising the Assembly as the properly constituted legislative body of the state.
This was contained in a statement on Friday by the Special Assistant on Media to the Speaker, Martins Wachukwu.
Reacting to the ruling at the 129th Legislative Sitting of the Second Session, the Speaker of the House, Amaewhule, described the judgment as a victory for democracy and the rule of law, stating that it confirmed their position that “Governor Siminalayi Fubara was running an illegal administration with unscreened officials and without an appropriation law.”
The Speaker praised the Supreme Court Justices, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, members of the Assembly, and others who contributed to upholding democratic principles in Rivers State.
