Sequel to the remark made by the ruling party against some members of the opposition party concerning association with the billionaire fraudster; Hushpuppi which was report by Naijacrawl that APC asks for the probe of PDP Members

In a swift reaction, the former Senate President Saraki in a statement released by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, described as irresponsible and cheap politics the statement from APC in which it tried to link him with Hushpuppi.

Saraki in the statement said he has no form of association with the said suspect, Ramon Abbas otherwise known as Hushpuppi and neither does he know him in any way.

“The statement credited to the APC, the ruling party in our country, is one of the ways by which our anti-graft agencies are weakened and why the fight against corruption in the country is often viewed with suspicion by the international community. This is because when these cyber-crime suspects were operating freely and openly displaying wealth, the APC saw nothing bad in their activities. Also, the party at that time did not deem it necessary to call on the anti-graft agencies to investigate their activities.

Also, since the arrest of those cyber crime suspects and the subsequent damage to the image and the economy of Nigeria as well as the crisis it created for Nigerians engaged in lawful businesses across the world, the ruling party had been muted. The only time the APC deemed it necessary to make a statement was when it thought it should play dirty, cheap and irresponsible politics.

Dr. Saraki was the only political leader who has publicly made a statement through an Op-Ed article published in the Daily Trust newspaper of July 1, 2020 titled “Cyber Criminals: Confronting The Few Who Dent Many” and this opinion article had been widely circulated online and on other platforms. In that article, he strongly condemned the activities of these cyber criminals and called on the law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to make decisive interventions to checkmate their activities. He has also got a research institution, the Politeia Institute, whose board he chairs to commence a research on the best ways to tackle the menace.

Such a noble intervention in tackling a menace is what Dr. Saraki believes in, not mudslinging and playing politics at the expense of the nation’s image. At this point, we call on the APC leadership to rein in the so-called Yekini Nabena and compel him to desist from making and circulating such malicious, odious and offensive claims”, the statement concluded.

The immediate past Governor of Ekiti state,Ayodele Fayose has described it as unthinkable decision for him to join the ruling APC in the state, he then likened the ruling party to the deadly coronavirus. Fayose who described APC as a coronavirus infected party said that someone of his status and pedigree can never contemplate joining.

The former Governor who was reacting to a statement by the APC in Ekiti State, that he was not qualified to join the party, said “it is funny that the APC in Ekiti State lied and went further to react to its own lies.”

Speaking through his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said, “I’m presently in a meeting of major stakeholders of the PDP in Ekiti State in the house of Senator Clement Awoyelu.”

Olayinka, who admonished the APC in the State to focus its attention on its non-performing government, described the report of Fayose’s threat to join APC should his adopted candidate for the State chairmanship of the PDP, Hon Bisi Kolawole, fails in the forthcoming State Congress as figment of the imagination of those peddling it.

“The story of Fayose’s threat to leave PDP for the APC is one of the lies from the APC factory of lies and it is even more childish that the party in Ekiti State went ahead to react to its own lies,” he said.

While saying there was nothing to attract any right-thinking politician to the APC, Olayinka asked; “is it the killings and kidnappings going on across the country? Is it the pariah State that Nigeria has become such that USA had to place the country on visa restrictions? Is it the huge debt the country has been plunged into? Or is it the directionless state of the country?

“Is it the sacking of over 3,000 workers by the non-performing APC government in Ekiti State?

“Most importantly, is it the confused state of the APC, which has made even the State Chairman of the party in Ekiti State, Mr. Paul Omotoso, to join others in calling for the removal of the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole?

“What is there in the APC to attract someone like Fayose, who is known for his stand in support of the masses of Nigeria that are being made to suffer more hardship by the APC government?

“They can continue to hallucinate about everything Ayodele Fayose, while he continues with his task to rebuild the PDP in Ekiti State with a view to returning to power

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NIDCOM says criminal acts such as fraud do not define the Nigerian people. The NIDCOM boss stated this while condemning the audacity of Ramon Abass aka Hushpuppi to commit crimes and still “show-off”.

It will be noted that the Dubai Police Force officially gave details about Hushpuppi and others and how they defrauded over 1.9 millions people.

The DPF revealed that upon the arrest of Hushpuppi and 12 other members of his gang, including Olalekan Ponle, aka Woodberry, they discovered that fraud amounting to 1.6 billion dirham (N168bn) had been perpetrated by the gang.

The Dubai police said the raid, carried out on June 10, 2020, was dubbed: Fox Hunt 2.

Reacting on Thursday evening, Dabiri-Erewa said the crimes perpetrated by Hushpuppi and his abettors dented the image of Nigeria, stressing that the law should take its course.

“Committing a crime and still having the audacity to show off. Ramoni Igbalode aka Hushpuppi. This is really denting to our image as a people, but like I always say, fraud does not represent who we are as Nigerians. Hardworking. dedicated, committed.

“Whether your name is Ramoni Igbalode or Invictus Obi, crime is crime. The law must take its course. To those countries, another Nigerian has committed a crime. While we will call out those who soil our image, we will always celebrate the millions of Nigerians making us proud,” she wrote on Twitter.
