A tragic incident unfolded in the Ajaka area of Sagamu, where a 26-year-old security guard, Muhammed Abubakar, allegedly killed an unidentified man who reportedly tried to steal his phone.

According to Punch, the fatal injury occurred when Abubakar struck the victim on the head with a large plank. A local source, speaking anonymously, described hearing a terrifying noise from Abubakar's post, prompting residents to contact the Sagamu Police Division. Inspector Ojo Alasofe responded promptly, accompanying the residents to the scene for an investigation.

"We suspected something was wrong when we heard the noise," the source said. "One resident was sent to the division to report the matter. The residents returned with a police officer. But when they got to the scene, they saw the deceased in a pool of his blood, gasping for breath."

The source added that Abubakar claimed he was using his phone when the deceased appeared and snatched it from him. Abubakar chased the man and, with the help of another security guard, apprehended him. A scuffle ensued as Abubakar attempted to drag the man back to his post, during which Abubakar struck him on the head with a large stick. The man's screams and the sight of blood drew the attention of passersby, who then called the police.

Confirming the incident, Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson, stated that Abubakar fled after suspecting the victim had died at the hospital. The victim was taken to Live Well Hospital in Ajaka, Sagamu, where he was declared dead by a doctor at around 9 p.m. on Monday. His body has been sent to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for presentation and identification.

"Abubakar has absconded. Our men are working round the clock to apprehend him," Odutola said.
