Governor of Anambra State, Prof.
Chukwuma Soludo, has revealed that 77 communities in the state currently lack public schools. Speaking at a meeting with heads of public schools, Soludo emphasized his administration’s commitment to resolving this issue and providing quality education for all residents of Anambra.
“Securing our future is a collective effort,” Soludo stated. “We must seize the opportunity now. Providing education is the greatest investment we can make.”
The governor highlighted ongoing efforts to tackle the problem, assuring that his administration will continue to allocate resources for teachers' professional development and improve the state's education infrastructure. He also addressed other key initiatives, such as clearing arrears of pensions and gratuities inherited by his administration. “Anyone who retires under my watch will receive their entitlements promptly after successful documentation,” he assured.
Despite having approval to borrow 100 billion naira since taking office, Soludo noted that his government has yet to take on any debt, opting instead to maintain fiscal responsibility. “I will borrow only to build capacity for the future. Under my watch, we are going to maintain fiscal sustainability,” he explained.
Governor Soludo also outlined the achievements of his administration across various sectors, including the recruitment of 8,115 teachers and over 1,000 doctors and health personnel, as well as youth empowerment programs that have benefited 5,000 young people, with an additional 8,000 youths participating in the “One Youth, Two Skills” entrepreneurship scheme.
