Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, said the ongoing palliative care distribution in the state is not for APC members alone but for all citizens in the state.
Buni made the assertion while flagging off the distribution of assorted food items to 3,000 vulnerable households in Damagum, the headquarters of Fune local government area of the state.
The governor explained that to ensure equity and fairness, the state committee consists of the chairmanships of opposition parties: the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).
Others are the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, (NULGE), Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Civil Society Groups as well as representatives of people living with disabilities among others.
He added the motive behind the distribution of the palliatives was to cushion the hardships caused by fuel subsidy removal.
“The removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu was not meant to hurt Nigeria but to place the country in a better position for sustainable economic growth”, he said.
Governor Buni also warned that mechanisms have been put in place by the distribution committee to check those who may sell the items distributed
It was gathered that 400,000 people across 17 local government areas of the state are being targeted for the gesture.
