Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of the South-West, Johnson Kokumo, has warned police officers to remain professional and avoid any strike action that could lead to mutiny.

During a meeting with police officers from the Ondo State Command on Thursday in Akure, Kokumo provided the advice.

According to the DIG, it is critical for police officers to carry out their responsibilities carefully while respecting residents' rights.

"Police officers cannot strike; that would be mutiny, and we all know what mutiny entails, as well as the consequences and punishments."

"My wish is that you will never be found guilty of mutiny, and I urge you all to execute your tasks conscientiously, and there will be brighter smiles on our faces in a short time," he stated.

As a result, the DIG advised police officers to refrain from engaging in any type of strike action.

According to him, the police department's wages and monuments were paid for by tax payers.

"There are, of course, rules and restrictions. Let us follow the norms and regulations in order to provide better service.

"Nothing can stop us from adhering to all of our laws and regulations; the police are our friends" is a popular motto, but we must examine ourselves. Do we really need to terrorize them? Is it necessary to continue to violate their rights with impunity? We shall continue to preach, especially to those who have yet to adopt a professional culture.

"As a matter of fact, we must respect the rights of citizens," the DIG stated.

When implemented, the raise in the police salaries granted by President Muhammadu Buhari, according to Kokumo, will make a significant difference in the lives of the officers.

He added that all of the departments responsible for the payment had begun the procedure and calculations, and that it would be paid soon.
