President Bola Tinubu has recently sanctioned the appointment of Major-General Adamu Garba Laka as the new National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, operating under the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, officially disclosed this significant development in a statement released on Tuesday.
Ngelale highlighted General Laka's extensive background, particularly his notable service in the North-East region of Nigeria, where he implemented strategic measures to combat terrorist factions effectively. Additionally, General Laka has contributed to peacekeeping efforts in Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo under the United Nations, and he participated in Nigeria's involvement in the US AFRICOM exercise held in Senegal.
With a Master’s Degree in National Security from the National Defence University in Pakistan and further education in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, General Laka brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.
Ngelale conveyed the President's confidence in General Laka's ability to leverage his extensive experience to tackle security threats with a proactive and thorough approach. Tinubu anticipates that General Laka's leadership will significantly enhance the effectiveness of counter-terrorism efforts through preemptive and diligent coordination.
This appointment underscores President Tinubu's commitment to addressing pressing security challenges and safeguarding the nation against terrorist threats.
