Nigerians have told Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to immediately hit the ground running, even before he is officially inaugurated on May 29.

The Daily Post recalls that Tinubu, who is the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defeated his main rivals, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), to emerge victorious.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bola Ahmed Tinubu was also presented with a Certificate of Return as President-elect by Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a chat with the Daily Post on Wednesday in Osogbo, Simon Adereti, a building material distributor, stated that whoever won the election was good for him in as much as the person is not from the North.

“My prayer has been answered, and finally a man from the South has become president. "I just pray he rules with the welfare of the people at the back of his mind,” he said.

Dorcas Ayoola, a trader, stated that what concerns her is that, at the end of the day, peace was achieved despite the division created by the election.

“The division was too much." Nigerians were divided along religious and ethnic lines. If this is what we will be experiencing every four years, Then it is bad.

“These politicians should know that it is a game, and for the people, it is a civic exercise. Nobody is forcing us to vote, but we see it as a duty we need to undertake for our country to move forward,” she said.

Alexander Omolola, a POS operator, stated that though he had his choice of candidate for the presidential election, he nevertheless felt happy that the tension and drama were over.

“These politicians would not set Nigeria on fire." All I want to do now is resume my business in one piece. I am tired of all these shenanigans.

“My business has suffered due to the scarcity of cash, but I hope that with the election over, things will get better and we will return to our normal lives.

“The politicians should do their politics while I do my business,” he stated.

The mood in the state has been one of jubilation, especially among APC members.

When the results of the presidential election were announced on Wednesday by Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC chairman, ecstatic supporters of Bola Ahmed Tinubu trooped out to celebrate.

A former Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rasak Adeosun, described the victory as a child of necessity for ‘a man to whom the cap fits’.

Adeosun stated that the emergence of Tinubu as president-elect has indeed rekindled the masses’ hope for a new Nigeria, leading to the actualization of the mantra of "renewed hope.

“His emergence means progress, development, and alleviation of poverty because this is a man who has done it in a particular part of the country, and we know that he will spread prosperity across the country.

“As regards the next House of Assembly election, I want to assure you that we are prepared. We are ready, and we are winning by the grace of God,” he added.
