The attack occurred late at night on Friday, May 3, 2024, sending shockwaves through the peaceful community. A community leader, speaking anonymously, condemned the killing, lamenting the loss of a traditional ruler of Ubani's caliber.

Chinasa Okorie, the Coordinator of Akaeze Development Centre, paid tribute to the slain monarch, highlighting his boldness, fearlessness, and intelligence. She emphasized that Ubani's wealth of experience would be sorely missed not only by the community but also by the entire local government and state.

"This is a great loss to the community and Akaeze at large because he is a man of integrity, a man that would be difficult to replace because the man is intelligent, he is bold and he is fearless," Okorie remarked. "The man did not know corruption because at all times, his integrity was always seen. I am very sad about his killing. It is a great loss to Akaeze Development Centre, where I am the leader, Ivo local government and Ebonyi State. His voice is loud in Ebonyi State; he is a first-class traditional ruler. The killing is a very bad incident."

Sinbad Ogbuatu, another stakeholder from the community, expressed concern over the tension and apprehension gripping the community in the aftermath of the incident. Markets and shops remained closed as residents grappled with the shock and uncertainty.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Joshua Ukandu, assured that law enforcement agencies were actively pursuing the perpetrators. The community now awaits justice and closure as they mourn the untimely loss of their beloved traditional ruler.
