Former Kaduna State governor and founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasir El-Rufai, has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the ruling party and its ability to address Nigeria's mounting challenges.
He expressed doubts over the commitment of the APC, under President Bola Tinubu's leadership, to confront the nation's pressing issues.
El-Rufai made these remarks during a democracy-focused conference in Abuja on Monday. The event, which brought together various pro-democracy organizations, including the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy, and Development and the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), served as a platform for the former governor to express his concerns. According to reports by the Daily Nigerian, El-Rufai criticized the APC's leadership, accusing the current administration of undermining opposition parties rather than prioritizing good governance.
Criticism Of APC' s Leadership Structure
El-Rufai expressed frustration with the state of the APC's internal mechanisms, lamenting the absence of functioning party organs. "I no longer recognise the APC," he declared. "For the past two years, no organ of the party has convened—not the caucus, not the NEC [National Executive Council], nothing. It's unclear whether the APC is being run by one individual or no one at all. It has become a zero-man show. "
