On Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja discharged and acquitted Andrew Yakubu, the former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, of money laundering allegations brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
In 2017, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided Mr. Yakubu's home in the Sabon Tasha region of Kaduna State on a tip-off and discovered $9,772, 800 and £74,000 in a safe.
After a five-year court fight, Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed ruled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt in a verdict.
Yakubu became upset and couldn't control himself when the judgement was in his favor, and he was observed crying tears of joy.
