In a chilling sequence of events, a group of armed individuals, suspected to be either bandits or terrorists, launched a series of attacks in Katsina state during the night of Wednesday and Thursday morning.
The onslaught resulted in at least three fatalities and the abduction of several others.
The horrific incident unfolded during Ishai prayer on Wednesday night when the assailants opened fire on unsuspecting Muslim worshippers, claiming the lives of three individuals. According to a source narrating the incident to Vanguard, the attackers targeted Muslim brothers during the prayer, with two losing their lives within the mosque premises, and a third meeting a fatal end outside while attempting to escape. Four others sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kankara.
The chaos escalated as the hoodlums abducted a man and two women during the attack. Unfortunately, the man's resistance to the assailants cost him his life, as he was mercilessly butchered for defying the abductors, the source revealed.
In a separate incident around 2:30 am the following day, the bandits targeted the residence of Sani Maikifi, a vigilante member, in Ungwar Tudun Boka within Kankara township. Miraculously, Sani managed to escape through his backyard, eluding the clutches of the assailants. However, his wife and son were not as fortunate, falling victim to the abductors.
The source disclosed that the hoodlums, who had been trailing Sani for some time, struck silently, infiltrating the community within Kankara township without raising an alarm.
In yet another separate attack at approximately 11:30 PM on Thursday, armed individuals stormed Dangani in Musawa local government, shooting sporadically. According to a source, the criminals were trailing a wealthy individual from the south, who had visited the area to offer condolences to a grieving relative.
The series of attacks in Katsina state underscore the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect the lives and well-being of residents in the region.
