In a recent development, Kola Ologbondiyan, the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shed light on the party's stance regarding allegations against one of its former presidential aspirants and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The appointment of Wike as the FCT Minister stirred speculation within the PDP ranks, with concerns raised about his alleged alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC) under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Despite these concerns, the PDP has refrained from taking any immediate disciplinary action against Wike.
Addressing the issue, Ologbondiyan emphasized that the party is meticulously following due process in handling the matter. He underscored the existence of a disciplinary committee tasked with thoroughly examining the situation before determining whether sanctions are warranted against the FCT minister. Ologbondiyan stressed that the party operates within the framework of its constitution, which governs its internal affairs and decision-making processes.
He stated, "The constitution of the party provides for disciplinary measures. It’s not a mob. Somebody can’t rise from somewhere and carry wood and say ‘You are responsible for this and that.’ So the purview of sanctioning is with the current working committee to consider your action this way or that."
Drawing parallels with previous instances, Ologbondiyan referenced the disciplinary action taken against former Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, who was queried by the party when he began associating with the APC. This illustrates the PDP's commitment to upholding its principles and addressing issues of concern through established channels.
Furthermore, Ologbondiyan highlighted the role of the party's disciplinary committee in addressing matters of similar nature, emphasizing the importance of a systematic approach in handling disciplinary issues within the party.
As the PDP navigates through this situation, Ologbondiyan's insights offer valuable clarity on the party's procedural approach and commitment to maintaining internal discipline while upholding democratic values. Stay tuned for further developments as the party continues to address this issue in accordance with its established protocols.
