A distressing incident unfolded yesterday(Tuesday), in Santos, a suburb community in Lagos, as residents were left in shock and agitation over the death of an unidentified woman.

The unfortunate incident occurred when she was reportedly crushed by a truck in the Abule-Egba Area of Lagos.

Reports indicate that a police team was on a mission to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycles in the area when the tragic incident unfolded, claiming the woman's life.

Confirming the incident, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, shared details on his handle. He explained, "Preliminary investigation reveals that earlier today at about 10:30 hrs at Santos Avenue, Abule Egba, police officers on legitimate enforcement of the existing ban on motorcycles in Lagos State were about to be mobbed by motorcycle riders."

Hundeyin went on to describe the situation, stating, "To preserve the lives of the officers and equally rule out casualties on the side of the riders, tear gas was justifiably used to disperse the crowd. A passenger in a tricycle, witnessing the use of tear gas ahead, panicked and jumped out of the tricycle. Sadly, an approaching Leyland tipper, with registration number AAB 376 CB, being driven recklessly, ran over her."

The driver of the tipper reportedly fled the scene, but the vehicle was later recovered. Hundeyin assured that contact has been established with the deceased's family, and a comprehensive investigation into the incident has been initiated.

The tragic event has sparked outrage and concern among the residents of Santos, highlighting the need for a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the woman's death and emphasizing the importance of safety measures in law enforcement activities.
