The Akwa Ibom Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mike Igini, has said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will cancel polls, in units where ballot boxes were snatched in the state.

Igini stated this while addressing newsmen, on the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Akwa Ibom on Saturday.

“We are able to deliver ballot papers and result sheets in various polling units apart from few that have one challenge or the other.

“What I can tell you emphatically is that there is no election, where there is snatching of ballot papers or result sheets are taken to private homes or somewhere to thumb print.

“We will not accept it, those things are not going to work here and we are not going to accept it.

Those areas will stand as cancelled and we will take them as non events,” Igini said.

He, however, said that the conduct of the elections was not completely 100 per cent, adding that elections did not start accordingly in few centres in the state due to some challenges.

Igini promised that INEC had learned lessons and will improve during the governorship elections.

The Governor made his decsion known througha statement by his Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim yesterday in Portharcourt.

He accused some members of the National Working Committee of the PDP of being sycophants and tax collectors who would never tell the truth. The Rivers State Governor said the National Working Committee, instead of carrying everybody along in Edo State, resorted to using the media to blackmail him.

Wike statement reads in part “I told them that in Edo State, we must handle the issue carefully and carry everybody along. They must respect human beings and not behave like tax collectors.

“They said because an order was obtained from a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, then I am responsible.

“I have had sleepless nights to resolve the issue in Edo State. The governors of Edo, Adamawa, and Delta states know what I have done to resolve the issues in Edo State.

“As a result of this senseless accusation, I have pulled out of Edo State settlement. My integrity matters.

“Nobody will rubbish me by raising false accusations against me. I will fight back.”

Wike said he was no longer going to participate in any reconciliation.
