In a chat with Rotary International District 9141, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Port Harcourt, the state capital, Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State governor, says it is impossible to stop kidnapping in Nigeria as it has now become a business.

In his words, "It is now impossible to stop kidnapping in Nigeria. It (kidnapping) is now a business. It has been commercialised. It is now a major business. Everyone must partner with the government to ensure that we reduce it to the barest minimum. But it cannot be totally eradicated.

Look at what is happening across the country. Kidnapping has taken over all states. When it started here, it was politicised. But today, it is negatively affecting all states of the federation. A few days ago, a Court of Appeal judge was kidnapped in Benin. Before that, a Federal High Court judge was kidnapped. All of us must work together to stop this scourge,"

Ekene Uzodinma will focus on policies and programmes that are essentially geared towards correcting the harrowing political culture in the state. One of the common characteristics of our successive governments is failure to complete some of the projects they started and on the other hand, the abandonment of most uncompleted projects by their predecessor or selecting only the ones that appeal to their personal interest or those of their sponsors. Hardly do they take into reckoning that trapped in those uncompleted projects are our state funds and that such project are for the state and not the administration that started it. They ignore the benefits such project will bring to the masses which includes job creation, economic vibrancy and so on. As if that is not enough, they embark on entirely new ones which most often amount to duplication of efforts and waste of our scarce resources. And in the end, they still leave many uncompleted projects so the circle continues.

The cheapest excuses for such project abandonment is usually that either the cost were over inflected with possibility of sharp practices or that too much money have been paid to the contractors already without commensurate work so far, while most of the  contractors usually start make demand for upward review from the new administration owing to inflation over time. Another reason is the petty jealousy over who takes the credit. Most administrations hardly see why they should uphold the legacies of their predecessor. They forget that government is a continuum and they all ought to work for the common good of the masses.

    As a Governor

Ekene Uzodinma intends to revisit all the abandoned people oriented projects in Enugu State and ensure their completion within the shortest possible time and put them to profitable use. He also plans to revive all the moribund state owned industries and make them operational. The jobs that all the moribund industries and and abandoned projects will create would have gone a long way in addressing unemployment in the state. His agricultural revolutionary master plan alone which entails that every local government must have not less than 1,000 acres farm with integrated production, preservation and marketing scheme will absorb over 15,000 youths within the first one year in office.

    As a Governor

Ekene Uzodinma plans to expand Enugu city by building industrial clusters and ultra modern markets and parks at strategic areas such as Ninth Mile Corner, Amechi Idodo, Ozalla, Ngwo, Amechi, Ugwaji and so on which will in addition to decongesting the present city metropolis, open up those areas and translate to a more vibrant economy. Part of his economic blue print is to turn Enugu into the commercial nerve center of the south east while harnessing our strategic location and landmark position in Igbo land. Ekene Uzodinma plans to engage reputable private investors, both local and foreign to explore all remarkable economic potentials of the state for the good of our people.

    As a Governor

Ekene Uzodinma plans to revive our educational system with special emphasis on the most neglected areas -the primary and secondary schools. He is deeply touched by the gross neglect of that foundational aspect of human development by the successive administrations and intends to declare a state of emergency in education immediately he assumes office. Part of his plans are to improve infrastructure and teachers welfare, employ highly qualified teachers to fill up all existing vacancies and the  introduction of modern teaching techniques and ICT. Simply put, he plans to make private schools unattractive as parents will testify to the noticeable difference and watch pupils in the public schools compete favourably, if not better than most of their counterparts in the private schools. The tertiary institutions will be restructured to eliminate all manner of corruption and upgraded to become truly research based and innovative to produce sound graduates who will not only parade certificates but are embodiments of solution.

    As a Governor

Ekene Uzodinma will streamline all government levies and taxes to eliminate multiple taxation and reduce the high cost of doing business in the state. He intends to promote entrepreneurship and grant free tax status to all beginners and small scale businesses with less one million naira capital base.

Ekene Uzodinma's vision is to prove to the entire that rather than using political position to loot public treasury and for primitive acquisition of wealth, that it is possible to be different. It is possible to be selfless and allow God to use him to make history. The reason our people have not seen a government that could do all the things he itemised is because of greed and desperation which assumed grotesque proportion from the late 70s, a close attention to Nigeria history shows that our founding fathers, the likes of Dr Micheal Okpala did so  much with limited resources because they saw leadership as a platform for service and accountability. Today politicians leverage on our collective docility and feast on on our common wealth. Enough is enough!

    As a Governor

Ekene Uzodinma does not intend to see payment of workers salaries and pension as an achievement worth celebrating. Neither does he want to campaign with promises of road construction or maintenance. To him, these are very basic things that ought to be done and which do not deserve unnecessary media hype. Unfortunately, in most cases the much taunted salaries are not even paid as at when due, gratuity of most retired workers are far from the story. Pensioners are the ones in the best position to tell us how often they get paid not radio stations manned by sycophantic government appointees. This is 21st Century, in addition to ensuring regular payment of workers salaries and pension, Ekene Uzodinma's leadership style will channel more energy on how to build a vibrant system that will make government truly responsive and accountable to the people.

Acceptance Speech by the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano on his Re-election as the Governor of Anambra State on Sunday, November 19, 2017

    Ndi b anyi, ekenem

With utmost humility, I stand before you to accept thehistoric mandate you have bestowed on me today!

Umu nnem, the victory we savour today belongs neither to Willie Obiano nor to our great party, APGA. No! This sweet victory belongs to Ndi Anambra!

It belongs to the wheel barrow pushers and the Okada riders who have clearly seen in our recent political experience, a glimmer of light in the horizon.

It belongs to the farmers in Ayamelum, Onono, Ogbaru, Omasi, Omor and Ufuma who have now realized that Agriculture is the future of Nigeria.

It belongs to the teachers and civil servants who have seen that a motivated workforce is the greatest asset of any government and have rewarded our faith in them with an overwhelming verdict at the polls.

It belongs to the illustrious sons and daughters of Anambra State who have seen the STAR of this great state rise in the Eastern Skies and have answered our call for Aku luo uno; bringing home their Naira and Dollars to put our dear state on the investment map!

This victory belongs to all of us! Umu nnem, this victory isnot a winner takes it all. For in the New Anambra of my dream, everyone is a winner. Everyone!

So, I reach out a hand of brotherhood to my fellow contestantsOseloka, Tony, Osita, Godwin and others whose names I cannot easily recall here. And I say to you;my brothers, we have all fought a good fight. But Anambra State is the WINNER! The interest of AnambraState is bigger than the private ambitions of anyone of us.. Therefore, I pray you to join hands with me and build a better place for Ndi Anambra! Our beloved state needs our talent and our time. The time to build a better place is NOW!

Indeed, this victory is a referendum on the solid resolve of Ndi Anambra to rise above average in all we do. We have demonstrated that we are indeed capable of taking charge of our lives and making difficult decisions that will brighten the future of our children. I have no doubt in my mind that we shall continue to lay the building blocks for a prosperous tomorrow for all.

Ndi Anambra, this mandate is dear to my heart. I see it as a historic call to inspire my people to greatness. I see it as a call to deny myself sleep that my people might sleep better. Umu nnem, I will not give myself rest until our beloved state has fully assumed the status of the model state of Nigeria. This is my promise to you all.

Fellow compatriots, this victory did not come by chance. It is the final product of the combined efforts of brilliant men and women who sacrificed their personal comfort to ensure that Anambras steady march to progress is not derailed.

My first and deepest gratitude goes to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President MuhammaduBuhari for proving to Ndi Anambra that under his watch, democracy will sink deeper roots in the Nigerian soil. Mr President promised us a free and fair election. Today, we can all see that he has kept his promise. Thank you so much Mr President!

I must also thank the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what has been widely adjudged a transparent election in Anambra State. With this election, INEC has shown that it has fully braced up for the 2019 elections. Thank you so much.

I will also not forget the vigilance of the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Army and other law enforcement agencies whose alertness ensured that the expressed will of the people was not thwarted. Indeed, you have done an incredible job!

To the indefatigable DG of my re-election campaign organization, Chief Victor Umeh, Ibobo Aguleri, Ohamadike! You and the entire Campaign Team have written your names in gold. My immense gratitude goes to every member of APGA, from the Ward Chairman to the members of the National Executive Council; you have made us proud! Chukwu gozie unu nine.

And to all the members of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, all the PGs and members of the various town unions across Anambra State, all the Bishops, Reverend Fathers and Pastors, the members of the organized Labour, the youths of Anambra State, the traders, the farmers, the ordinary men and women who look up to government for a better day, I assure you that my team and I shall never fail you.

Indeed, Ndi Anambra, on behalf of my capable Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke, I thank you all for renewing this mandate and I urge you to prepare for the speedy transformation of Anambra State into a prosperous sub-national entity in the next four years.

Umu nnem, we have stepped into our finest hour. We have finally hit the proverbial bend in the river. Our journey into greatness is now assured. We are ready and willing to work with anyone who has something to share that will make Anambra State great.

We are open to new ideas, new visions of society and a New Hope!

    God bless Anambra State

    God bless Nigeria
