Tom King's goal for Newport County AFC in their 1-1 draw at Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night set a new world record.
It has been officially measured at 96.01m (105 yards), making it the longest distance strike in football history, confirmed by Guinness World Records.
King scored directly from a goal kick on the edge of his six-yard box in the 12th minute to give Newport the lead before Matty Blair equalised for Cheltenham just before half-time.
King breaks Asmir Begovic's previous landmark of 91.9m, scored for Stoke City against Southampton in November 2013.
"I'll have to drop Asmir a message to send my commiserations, but, in all honesty, it's different territory for me because it's something I never dreamt of being in the books that you get for Christmas every year," he said.
