Former Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero is set to make a return to the football pitch later this month in Ecuador.
In an official announcement on Sunday, Ecuadorian sports club Barcelona S.C. confirmed that Aguero would be a guest player appearing in the 2023 Noche Amarilla on January 28.
The Noche Amarilla is a traditional yearly friendly played by Barcelona de Guayaquil featuring a football legend, with Brazilian legend Ronaldinho having taken part in the match in 2016.
Aguero has not appeared in a professional football match since November 2021.
The 34-year-old last appeared in Barcelona’s 1-1 home draw against Alavés, a game that would end up being his final match before retiring.
The Manchester City legend was taken to the hospital with chest discomfort that was diagnosed as cardiac arrhythmia during Barcelona’s tie with Alaves in 2021.
Aguero eventually announced his retirement from football on the advice of doctors the following month.
However, the former Atletico Madrid forward is now set to make a return to the game later in January in Ecuador.
“I look forward to Noche Amarilla, to have fun and have a good time with the fans of Barcelona S.C.
“I have had check-ups from the cardiologist, I am very well and I have already started training, so I will be able to play in the Noche Amarilla,” Aguero said after Barcelona S.C confirmed he would feature in the friendly.
